The Shadow Project

In 2007, more special education students dropped out than graduated with a regular diploma in five Portland metro districts.* By investing in The Shadow Project, Social Venture Partners Portland will change that….because these students have tremendous potential to achieve and to contribute.

For students with special needs, school can be demoralizing. Many children struggle to master learning material. Without adequate support from others, they lose hope in themselves. The Shadow Project reaches struggling students before discouragement sets in and becomes a way of life. They engage children early, building habits for success in boys and girls grades K-8 and getting them excited about learning….and about life.

Our investment in The Shadow Project will help 750 more Portland-area children develop the skills and habits that will help them to be confident and eager learners. But our objectives are even bolder than that. SVPP Partners committed to help The Shadow Project develop a replication package to bring its life-changing program to schools nationwide.
