Parental Engagement Program
Creating a nationally recognized model elementary school in a low-income neighborhood with more than 1/3 of students from immigrant families is an outstanding achievement. Kelly Elementary school in SE Portland did it, and SVPP helped replicate it.
In 1998, the school was cited by the U.S. Department of Education for its model parent involvement program, “Kelly Community House,” which provides services in early childhood development, family literacy, family counseling and social service referrals.
Our investment will help Kelly and Clark Elementary schools in southeast Portland, and other diverse and low-income students, get the support they need to reach their true potential. Through documenting the successful models and applying them to similar schools, we’ll help close the achievement gap in SE Portland and provide the replication tools for expansion throughout Oregon and nationally.
Our enthusiastic partner in this effort is Portland Impact, an organization serving more than 70,000 Portlanders in need, including Clark and Kelly’s SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhood) program.
