The SVPP Model Our Mission / History Executive Board

Social Venture Partners represents an innovative approach for those who wish to give something back to their community. The SVP movement has attracted national attention for its unique model that borrows from successful venture capital practices.

SVP Portland is a member-governed, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization incorporated in Oregon. We are an affiliate of SVP International --- a group of cooperating partnerships with a shared mission and principles. SVP Portland is funded through annual partner donations.

Our partners pool their money and then work together to select worthy nonprofits. To ensure our financial support makes a real difference, we combine it with skilled volunteer time to increase our impact. Our goal is to assist these organizations in helping children through grants and guidance in organizational management, finance, marketing, and strategic planning. We typically work with a nonprofit for three to five years.

By pooling our resources and spending our time in high-leverage volunteer work, we provide more help and feel a measure of satisfaction difficult to achieve as individuals.

"SVP Portland represents a very powerful new model of value-added philanthropy. Funds are obviously needed by nonprofits but integration of effective managerial, strategic and IT skills from private sector are also clearly needed."
